I'M THE CHAIRMAN OF THE SELECTION COMMITTEE FOR THE NEWARK BLACK FILM FESTIVAL, OPENING ON TUESDAY, JULY 12TH, AT THE NEWARK MUSEUM OF ART IN NEWARK, NEW JERSEY. WE'RE IN OUR 49TH YEAR, AND HAVE A COMPELLING, ENGAGING LINE-UP OF NEW FILMS IN MULTIPLE CATEGORIES (INTERNATIONAl, LONG NARRATIVE, SHORT NARRATIVE, DOCUMENTARY), PLUS PREVIEW EXCERPTS FROM AN EXCITING NEW POLITICAL DRAMA SLATED FOR RELEASE IN 2024 AND A CELEBRATION OF THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE RELEASE OF ERNEST DICKERSON'S, JUICE. THE COMMITTEE WILL MAKE A SPECIAL PRESENTATION TO THE FAMED DIRECTOR, ERNEST DICKERSON, ACKNOWLEDGING NOT ONLY HIS WORK AS DIRECTOR OF JUICE, BUT HIS LONGSTANDING WORK AS A FILMMAKER, TELEVISION DIRECTOR AND HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE FILM INDUSTRY. OUR OPENING NIGHT AND CLOSING NIGHT CELEBRATIONS WILL FEATURE MUSIC, DANCE AND LIVE PERFORMANCES IN THE MUSEUM'S SPACIOUS ROTUNDA. ALL ARE WELCOME, SO IF YOU ARE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD- AND EVEN IF YOU'RE NOT BUT CURIOUS ANYWAY - COME ON BY! I'D LOVE TO SEE YOUR FACE IN THE PLACE!

The Newark Museum of Art continues its legacy to present films that heighten the historic importance of the Black experience in the United States.
